Even if you haven’t had a crash, EPS (expanded polystyrene foam), the material in bike helmets, becomes less able to deal with an impact after its been dropped, dinged, set down, tightened, loosened, packed, set down again, dropped again, and again, and again – you get the idea.
For your own safety, you want your helmet to be in the best shape possible to provide you with the safest result in the unfortunate occurrence of an accident. And let’s be honest, if you’ve ridden long enough you know that eventually you’re going down.
